Metabolic defects characterised by an increase in the concentration of lipids in the blood. Depending on the type of lipids concerned, it is known as hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia or combined hyperlipidemia.

The increase in the blood concentration of lipids, in particular of cholesterol, represents a major cardiovascular risk factor.
