Deep venous thrombosis (or thrombophlebitis or phlebitis)

Disease linked to the formation of a blood clot inside a vein most often in the lower limbs.

Deep vein thrombosis of the lower limbs represents a permanent threat for bedridden patients and is serious for two reasons: firstly because of the risk of migration of the clot to the lungs (pulmonary embolism) and secondly because of the risk of permanent venous impairment with a slowing of venous return (post-phlebitic syndrome). The purpose of treatment is to avoid the occurrence of these complications.
