Environmental indicatorsResults indicatorsMethodology Environmental data represent the Group-wide consolidation of data from Sanofi-Synthélabo and Aventis with a global scope in accordance with the respective procedures in force at the beginning of 2004. The procedures were compared. Definitions are similar and in order to be comparable, data from 2003 and 2002 were reprocessed for consolidation using the same methods and scope as 2004 data. In 2004, the collection procedures and tools that were used, although similar, did not make it possible to obtain strictly identical procedures, which may add uncertainty of the order of 5 to 10% to some indicators relating to atmospheric emissions (NOx and SOx) and aqueous waste (COD, SM, nitrogen). Other specific cases are mentioned explicitly. The data concern all industrial establishments for chemical, pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing, the primary distribution centers and all research centers. When sites are home to more than one establishment, the environmental impact taken into account is that of the establishment with the greatest impact. The ratio of each metric compared to combined pro forma sales enables a comparison with other groups. It must, however, be taken with caution as it also sometimes includes significant biases (currency effect, inflation, product mix). In light of the new dimensions of the Group, it was not calculated for 2002 and 2003.
