Charter on the Humane Care and Use of Laboratory AnimalsInnovative research is a necessity for sanofi-aventis, as it is a determining factor in the success of a research-based pharmaceutical company. Innovative research has greatly contributed to the development of alternative methods and, consequently to a significant decline in animal experiments, and will continue to do so. However, for numerous important questions, experiments on animals continue to be essential. Only the complex interaction of every organ function in a living organism makes it possible to carry out a careful risk/benefit assessment before a new substance is applied to humans. Sanofi-aventis’ aim is to continue to cut down on animal experiments, as much as possible. The protection and welfare of the animals for which we are responsible is also an important matter of concern to us. We maintain a global “Culture of Care” for all our animals.
