Aprovel® (irbesartan) belongs to the fastest growing class of anti-hypertensives, angiotensin II receptor
antagonists, and is indicated as a first-line treatment for hypertension. Angiotensin II receptor antagonists, which are highly effective, act by blocking the effect of angiotensin, the hormone responsible for blood vessel contraction, thereby enabling blood pressure to return to normal. In addition to Aprovel®/Avapro®/Karvea®, we market CoAprovel®/Avalide®/Karvezide®, a fixed dose combination of irbesartan and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), a diuretic that increases the excretion of water by the kidneys and provides an additive blood pressure lowering effect. These products achieve control of blood pressure in over 80% of patients with a very good safety profile.
