Major research issues

Sanofi-aventis, one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies and number 1 in Europe, now has many assets to face up to the future’s main research challenges.
Although there has been immense progress in the last few years, oncology and disorders of the central nervous system are undeniably the major public health challenges confronting us today. Research will also need to grapple with viral endemic diseases, such as avian influenza. Finally, it must also contend with the development of new antibiotics to target resistant strains.

Our research is innovative. We now have one of the best portfolios in the pharmaceutical industry with, in particular, compounds which are “first in class”, i.e. truly new products effective on new targets. We develop our products without any consideration for the size of the market. All innovations must achieve their goal for the benefit of patients.

Our researchers are Italian, English, German, Hungarian, American, Japanese, Spanish, French… so they are naturally diverse. Although technology is the same for everyone, approaches to research are deeply individual and embedded in a particular cultural methodology.
