Sanofi-aventis seeks to develop high-quality social dialogue with all its employees and their representatives while also taking into account local legislation in each country.

The Group applies the principles of the UN Global Compact, to which it has subscribed. It supports freedom of association and recognizes the right to collective bargaining. The Group's policy is laid out in its Social Charter, which is distributed to all employees.

Industrial relations within the Group are based on mutual respect and dialogue. In this spirit, employee representatives and management meet frequently to exchange views, negotiate and enter into agreements.

In 2009, forums to enable social dialogue in most of the countries where the Group operates were kept regularly informed about the Group’s market and the transformation program launched by senior management at the start of the year.

In addition, a number of affiliates conducted a social climate survey with an excellent overall employee participation rate (more than 90%). The results were presented to all employees at each relevant affiliate, along with an action plan focusing on the identified areas for improvement.
